One of my favourite panels is in this section: that final explosion. For once a special effect turned out just the way I wanted it to! It makes some of the things I've done for Detulux look utterly rubbish by comparison. Then again, I've been surprising myself with quite a few of the smoke effects throughout this endeavour. Apparently I acquired extra skills when I wasn't paying attention...

As for the end of the race, I personally couldn't imagine it going off on another note. I don't mean Sean's little joke with George at the end there (terribly sorry, Hikarino) but rather the missile bit. The moment Sean told me his grand plan, I immediately could picture it happening. Go Ralph and his clumsy victory! Er, I mean victory he totally did on purpose and that he is in no way trigger happy. =p

I'll be honest. I'm one of those writers who struggles with certain situations and/or character archetypes, and the reason that I enter tournaments is to experience writing for a variety of characters I could never possibly think up on my own. I enjoy the "borrowing" of other people's characters, and the competitive edge gives off a nice aura too.

"Empowered young female" is a character archetype I struggle with, so writing this round didn't come as naturally as it might of in the hands of another person - I took a few cheap shots, blatantly played the "cute animé chick card" a couple of times, ticked the box on "obligatory fight scene" and took advantage of her trusting friend's knowledge to provide the character as much an edge as I could (if I'd have exploited Maxine much more, we'd have had an obnoxiously happy "friendship" scene that the hug at the end barely skirted).

The environment turned out to be harder to exploit than I thought, too. Still, Sam made it fascinating to look at!

Am I happy with what I wrote? I was. And then I realised that I'd written an extended falling brick joke. Damn you, TV Tropes! Stop pigeon-holing my ideas! :XD: Still, I hope you've enjoyed this, and who knows, we may actually get to round two (maybe)...

All you got to remember about science of any type is that we're always going "hmmm if i do that again will it achieve the same result?" :D
